🟥 The Future Isn’t Build By Dopamine Junkies

So.
Let’s say you’re a relatively intelligent ape who stumbled into godhood via language and opposable thumbs.
You’re rational. You’re conscious.
You can delay gratification, do taxes, and cross the road without needing to hold someone’s hand.

But there’s a catch:
You’re also wired like a prehistoric squirrel who just found a vending machine full of b00bs, Tim-Tams, and TikToks.

(And who doesn’t like Tim-Tams, right? 🤤)

It’s not your fault though.
Your biology was built for survival.
Not doomscrolling at 3am on a weeknight.
Which is why you crave things that are killing you.
And pay for the privilege.

So… What’s the deal?
It’s called: supernormal stimulus.

It’s a sciencey term from Nikolaas Tinbergen.
Basically, it means: a fake version of a natural reward that your brain reacts to even harder than the real thing.

Some examples:

  • Junk food: Presses all your “survive the famine” buttons… with no nutrients.
  • Pr0n: Triggers your s3xual reward system… without human contact.
  • Social media: Gives you the illusion of tribe, status, and danger… without anyone in the room.
  • Video games: Feels like mastery, conquest, challenge… without consequence.
  • Shopping: Stimulus-response loop with a dopamine receipt.
  • Clickbait, news cycles, advertising: All engineered to say “You need this now.”

It’s not natural in any evolutionary sense.
It’s better than natural.
Too good to resist.
So we don’t.
We build more.
We tweak the colours.
We study the stats.
We test, optimise, and scale.

We’re hijacking natural instincts with artificial extremes.

And now everyone’s addicted.
Completely normal.
You’re responding perfectly… biologically.
To a system built to short-circuit your will.
By people who learned exactly how to make you want it.

Our psychological response? Not so much.

So let’s ask the question nobody wants to answer.
(Spoiler: answer below.)
What kind of world have we built where the default response to existence… is distraction?

We didn’t just trip into this.
We engineered it.
We weaponised the supernormal.

Marketing?
Socially acceptable manipulation.

Social media?
Dopamine snacks at well below theatre prices.

We’re sold comfort as though it’s freedom.
We’re sold impulse as though it’s a choice.
We’re sold addiction as if drinking a sugary, carbonated, caffeinated, over-priced beverage is going to bring us popularity, connection, and fun.

And now we’re all… twitchy.

But they’re shooting themselves in the foot (feet?), right?

Let’s zoom out.

If human beings are your greatest resource…
Why would you turn them into sedated, sick, distracted addicts?
Why sabotage the thing that builds your world?

Because they don’t know better.

(Yes, I’m an empathetic fellow – but it’s true, people do terrible things mostly because they’re too ignorant or lazy to seek an alternative)

What conditions must exist for someone to want to destroy others, and by extension, any chance of saving themselves?
Answer?
Existential dread.

Ernest Becker put it best:
“The idea of death, the fear of it, haunts the human animal like nothing else… we create the manageable lie of power to deny the unmanageable truth of nothingness.”

If you can’t defeat death…
you dominate life.
Control. Extract. Distract.
That’s their agency: fear wearing a Rolex.

So What Do You Do?
You don’t fight it with shame, guilt, endless diets, and detox retreats.
You don’t out-discipline a dopamine machine.

You step outside the frame.

That means two things:

1. Control what you can:

  • Your environment.
  • Your inputs.
  • Your attention.

2. Reclaim what matters:

  • Your paradigm.
  • Your perspective.
  • Your decisions.

Force it, and you’ll meet resistance.
It’s about restoring the part of you that chooses.

The only way to win is to refuse to play.

This is what sovereignty looks like.
You’re the witness.
You see context.
Your super-power against the super-normal is agency-driven choice.

The future isn’t going to be built by dopamine junkies.
It’s built by the ones who see the trap, and break free of the cage.
The ones who rebuild identity from the inside out.
With self-authored mental integrity.

It’s not easy.
It’s not s3xy.
But it’s freeing.

And weirdly?
That’s what makes it feel good.
Not sheets tangled on the floor good…
but mind quietly blown good.

Hey… You still here?
Cool. That tells me something about you.

You’re digging for more than a quick fix.
You’re searching for something.
Like there’s something there… deeper… somehow just out of sight.

If that’s you… I’ll just say this:
Yeah. You’re onto something.
Keep digging.
It comes together.
And suddenly, it all makes sense.

Still curious about identity, authorship, metaphor, and manipulation?
I’ve got something that might drop a few puzzle pieces into place.

There’s a clearer, lighter version of you on the other side of all this.
I can’t get you there.
But I can show you where to look.
